New Seminar!

Learn how to solve a variety of land valuation and feasibility problems using less commonly used land valuation techniques in this one-day seminar. Interactive case studies and discussion topics cover highest and best use considerations, land residual analysis, contamination, impacts of tax increment financing on feasibility, condemnation, subdivision analysis, unit of comparison selection, and alternatives when inadequate land sales exist. Problem identification, assignment conditions, scope of work decisions, and standards of practice are reviewed in each problem and solutions are discussed. Lively class discussion and interaction will result as problems are explored.

Upon completion of the seminar, participants should be able to
  • Summarize the six recognized land valuation techniques
  • Employ land residual analysis as part of a highest and best use decision
  • Calculate and use internal rates of return as a method of testing feasibility
  • Recognize terms and concepts used for valuation of contaminated land
  • Test alternative units of comparison
  • Perform allocation and market extraction when land sales are lacking
  • Understand the basics of subdivision valuation
  • Understand the basics of condemnation valuation
  • Properly apply special/extraordinary assumptions, hypothetical conditions, and the Jurisdictional Exception Rule of USPAP in unusual situations.

Space is not guaranteed for those who register after the registration deadline. Priority is given to students enrolling for more than one course. Seating is limited and sessions may fill quickly. Register early. Students without materials may not take the course. A minimum enrollment is required to be able to offer these courses. We reserve the right to cancel or re-schedule this course if a minimum enrollment is not met. If the course is cancelled, you will be notified and given a full refund. Consequently, we do not recommend purchasing non-refundable airline tickets. All cancellations must be submitted in writing. Confirmed students should not assume that cancellation has been granted until a confirmation has been received. APPRAISER QUALIFICATION HOURS & ATTENDANCE POLICY The Appraisal Institute enforces attendance requirements mandated by state licensing and certification regulatory agencies. The Appraisal Institute issues certificates for state certification/licensing or state continuing education credit that verify successful completion and attendance of 100% with your grade notification letter. One hundred percent (100%) attendance is required for all Appraisal Institute education programs. Credit and a course completion certificate can only be issued by attending 100% of the course. Please plan accordingly and be on time as late arrival or leaving early could jeopardize your receiving a certificate of attendance. Makeup of missed sessions is not allowed. Lunch and afternoon break is "on your own". Directions: From North - I-95 South to Rhode Island. Take Exit 13 (T.F. Green Airport) to Post Road and turn left. The hotel is 0.25 miles ahead on the right. From West - Take Route 146 East to I-95 South to Rhode Island Exit 13 (T.F. Green Airport). Proceed to Post Road and turn left. The hotel is 0.25 miles ahead on the right. From South - Take I-95 North to Rhode Island Exit 13 (T.F. Green Airport) and turn left onto Post Road.
