A joint offering co-sponsored by the Northern California Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and Real Estate Appraiser Association (REAA).

This one-day residential appraisal conference is specifically designed for the independent boots-on-the-ground field appraisers. The morning will be dedicated to desktop and hybrid appraisals; the hybrid appraisal (a 3rd party inspects the subject and an appraiser completes the valuation with no personal inspection) is one of the hottest topics in our industry. Gain a USPAP overview of these products, and then participate in a detailed discussion of how they actually work; from the initial order, through the 3rd party inspection process, to the appraisal valuation process, and finally through submission. Our E&O discussion will focus on the liability of these products. Attendees will leave knowing what these appraisals are, what they are used for, and if it is a product for inclusion in your service offerings.

The afternoon is all about developing non-mortgage appraisal opportunities as well as marketing and professional development through association with a professional appraisal organization. Most of us know exactly what our mortgage-lending clients expect in an appraisal, but non-mortgage clients can have much different needs and expectations. Understand how to become an expert in discovering what your non-mortgage client really needs in an appraisal. Then, learn how to develop the scope of work (SOW) and engagement agreement that fulfills that need as well as clearly outlines what will be delivered. Before you can get the non-mortgage client, you must identify what that client needs and then develop the process to deliver it to them successfully.

Social media provides a powerful tool for appraisers to use to get their message out to potential clients. Learn how appraisers can use social media to our advantage in promoting our appraisal experience and service offerings. Whether you’re on Facebook every day, or have never tweeted in your life, social media is a tool you can use at a level that fits within your comfort zone.

We’ll close the day with a short overview of the benefits of joining a professional appraisal organization. Both the Real Estate Appraisers Association (REAA) and the Appraisal Institute (AI) are dedicated to promoting professional development of their professionals and all real estate appraisers. Each organization provides continuing education events, networking opportunities, and other benefits. And, they create timely events like this one, designed to keep all appraisers up-to-date on the changes and challenges we face. We look forward to sharing how membership or affiliation has benefited us, and how it may benefit you.
