This course focuses on the practical application of quantitative tools for analyzing data, drawing appropriate conclusions from data sets, and presenting both the analysis and conclusions in ways that enhance communication with appraisal clients. It reviews and furthers the application of basic statistical measures (mean, median, mode, standard deviation, etc.) and spends a good deal of time on graphical and regression analysis.

Central goals of the course include showing participants how to understand the reliability and validity of data used to draw conclusions, providing the knowledge needed to support the conclusions others may draw from the same or similar datasets. Presentation and activities make extensive use of real-world appraisal applications and are aimed at furthering an appraiser’s ability to provide credible analysis of real property-related issues.

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
• Properly apply and explain statistical methods such as simple and multiple regression analysis using market information
• Understand and critique statistical applications
• Understand how to incorporate statistical analysis in valuation reports
• Understand how to evaluate the reliability of various types of data used in valuation
• Understand the language of quantitative analysis
• Use graphs to present data and analysis
• Understand research design issues such as hypothesis construction, data reliability and validity, and sampling issues

Note: This course implements a blended learning approach, which includes a pre-class, two-hour online session combined with 30 hours of traditional classroom education and wraps up with a three-hour exam on the fifth morning.

• A financial calculator is required. The accepted model used in the course is the HP-12C. Note. Cellular phones, tablets, iPads, and other devices that connect to the Internet are NOT permitted during the exam.
You must be familiar with basic Excel and calculator operation when the course begins. Answers to problems in course material are shown using Excel 2010. Do not come to class expecting to be taught how to use Excel.

Note to Mac users: Microsoft does not support the Data Analysis Tool Pack in Mac Office Excel 2008 or Mac Office  Excel 2011.  However, they do suggest free third-party add-ins with similar functionality. For more information, select Excel 2008 or Excel 2011.

    • $150.00 cancellation fee.
    • Less than 7 days prior to program start date, forfeit of payment.
          Program Material Policy

    Beginning 4 weeks before the offering start date, program material will be shipped directly to the student. If this material has been shipped and you request a registration cancellation, you will automatically be charged a $25.00 fee and you may keep the material. Once the fee is charged, your refund will be processed. Material returns are no longer accepted. Contact the offering sponsor for more information.

    Requests for cancellation must be received in writing at the Chapter Office. The Chapter reserves the right to cancel, limit, or reschedule the course and to change faculty assignments and facility location at any time; therefore, prospective students should confirm their registration prior to making any non-refundable airline reservations. The Appraisal Institute, North Texas Chapter is not responsible for students’ non-refundable airline reservations or other travel costs.

    There are NO transfers; you must cancel out of the course.

    Course material will be distributed to students during registration on the first day of class. Materials will not be shipped to students. If students would like to view the material prior to class, it can be accessed online in the Appraisal Institute Knowledge Center. To access the Knowledge Center, click on the link provided in the course confirmation you receive immediately after registering for the class.

    Some courses have prerequisites. Be sure to read the course description to find out if there are any prerequisites for this course.

    The Appraisal Institute enforces attendance requirements mandated by state licensing and certification regulatory agencies. The Appraisal Institute issues certificates for state certification/licensing or state continuing education credit that verify successful completion and attendance of 100% with your grade notification letter for courses, or at the conclusion of seminars. Attendance at course orientation is mandatory. One hundred percent (100%) attendance is required for all Appraisal Institute education programs. This follows Appraiser Qualifications Board minimum criteria requirements.

    Prior to registering for your first advanced education course, you are required to pass a diagnostic test that will assess your skill level in Excel and ensure that you will gain the most out of your learning experience. The Test is free and can be taken at any time on your computer. After successfully passing the Test, you will be able to register for any of the four general appraiser courses in the advanced curriculum.     Prior to the first day of class, a separate 2-hour online session is required. The online session is available 28 days before the classroom session begins, and it ends 2 days before the classroom session begins.
