  Description  

This one-day introduction course focuses on the evolution of green buildings, the concept of sustainability in buildings, and the principles, practices, and components that distinguish sustainable from conventional buildings.

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
• Recognize competency and standards implications of appraising green buildings
• Understand the evolution of green buildings
• Understand the six elements of green building
• Identify benefits and costs of green buildings
• Recognize the green building certification and ratings programs for energy conservation and sustainability
• Understand the primary areas of green reporting
• Understand highest and best use implications
• Consider the three approaches to value in context of green buildings.

COURSE/SEMINAR ATTENDANCE - Don't be late! One hundred percent (100%) is required for all Appraisal Institute education programs. This follows Appraiser Qualification Board minimum criteria requirements. Students should not be late or leave early. If the Appraisal Institute attendance records indicate attendance of less than 100%, the student's certificate will reflect this, and state agencies may refuse to award credit.

COMPLETION CERTIFICATES: For scannable exams, written notification or results will be sent via email to the examinee approximately 15 business days from the date of receipt of the exams at the national office. Certificates of completion for Seminars will be distributed at the conclusion of the class or e-mailed to you. Express Grading for scannable exams is available - for more information about Express Grading, contact the Appraisal Institute National office at 312.335.4207.

  Additional Information  
Upon completion of registration, you will receive an enrollment confirmation/receipt via e-mail. Look out for the e-mail and save it for future reference via a print out or save to your smartphone.

Note: Program materials can be downloaded by the student or can be picked up by the student . If you elect to take the download option and save $15.00, printed materials will NOT be shipped to you or available onsite. It is your responsibility to have the documents available in class on a digital device or printed and brought with you.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
• Laptop - Recommended - not required
• Calculators. A calculator is not required for the course or the exam. Important note. Cellular phones, tablets, iPads, and other devices that can store data or connect to the Internet are NOT permitted during the exam. In addition, all watches, wallets, bags, and purses must be removed and stored out of reach prior to taking the exam.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
To receive credit, 100% attendance is required for all Appraisal Institute education programs. Students who are late or leave early will not receive credit. The Minnesota Department of Commerce requires 100% attendance. Partial credit is not awarded.

EXAM GRADING POLICY (5-7 Business Days):
The Appraisal Institute's national office will e-mail exam results and certificates of attendance to the students within 5 - 7 business days from the date the exams are received at the National Appraisal Institute office.
